Challenges are a series of unofficial player-submitted trial intended for others to try for themselves when playing WolfQuest. Any difficulty level can be applied unless otherwise indicated. This article serves as a compilation of challenges.

These challenges apply exclusively to WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition. They may not work or will be unsuitable for older versions or past incarnations of WolfQuest.

Modifiers[]

In the Anniversary Edition, the following "modifiers" are for the player to consider using. These options are mix-and-match, so any combination may make the challenge you are playing either easier or harder!

Mandatory Rule: Do not use Easy difficulty.

  1. Play Challenging difficulty only, and lock-in without changing this setting mid-game after starting a new game.
  2. Play Accurate difficulty only, and lock-in without changing this setting mid-game after starting a new game.
  3. Enable mate permadeath.
    Choose ONE:
One More Chance - If mate dies, you can only replace it once. After two mates in total, go it alone.
Widow/Widower - If the first mate dies, go it alone without replacing it at all.
  4. Play as a runt grown into a playable adult from one of your wolves' family trees.
  5. Play as an Ironwolf.
  6. Play as an Elder wolf.
  7. Play as an Elder-Ironwolf.

IF you don't like these options, you can of course play without any of these suggestions.

Extra Conditions have been added per challenge! Completing these are regarded as optional unless otherwise stated to be mandatory.

Single-player[]

Challenges designed to test your mettle in single-player mode.

One Hex Challenge[]

In the Anniversary Edition, the One Hex Challenge is a risky challenge wherein the player-wolf and their pack only maintain one hex after completing the Establish Your Territory mission. Doing so is risky because it means competitors, predators, and rival wolves will visit more frequently than they would if the player maintained many hexes, and hunting is more likely to be interrupted should prey lure the player-wolf into trespassing on rival-claimed territory. On the bright side, there are less hexes to maintain and time can be dedicated to other matters.

Clear Conditions:

  • Standard: Den or Rendezvous allowed.
  • Homeless: No den or rendezvous site allowed. Follow rules of No Home in addition.
  • After completing Establish Your Territory, start Find a Den but do not progress until all but one hexes decay to 0% or are taken over by other packs.
Optional: can eat and sleep until only the desired hex is claimed, ensuring that only its claim remains strong.

Extra Credit:

  • Hardcore grade
    • Pups do not use shelter at all. Pack stays where there are no clusters of tall grass. (E.g., edge of game map; try boulder pass.)
    • All pups survive.
  • Start from one corner of the map (e.g., starting den) and work your way slowly over towards the other (e.g., finishing rendezvous).
  • Glitchless - play the game the way it was designed and abuse no cheats, bugs and glitches, or exploits.

No Home Challenge[]

In the Anniversary Edition, the No Home or Homeless Challenge kicks nomad up a level. Instead of relying on a home site — both the spring den and rendezvous later in the summer — the player relies on the surrounding wilderness to keep their pups alive.

Clear Conditions:

  • One den, and one den only to birth pups.
  • Abandon the chosen den as soon as the pups emerge.
  • Do not choose a second den from this point forward.
  • Pups are allowed to shelter in tall grass. Player may use terrain (e.g., wherever NPC pathing falters such that they cannot reach player-wolf or pups) to their advantage.
  • Rendezvous site can be chosen to progress into Endless Summer.

A significant perk of running homeless is that pups can follow the player and will eat almost anywhere in the game world. Upon triggering Hunt Newborn Ungulates!, they will consume directly from carcasses instead of depending on regurgitated meat.

In Classic, this challenge is not possible.

In Legacy versions, this challenge is not possible.

No Mate Challenge[]

In the Anniversary Edition, the No Mate Challenge ramps up the difficulty of the game by removing the AI assistant: the player-wolf's mate. To qualify, the player must kill their wolf's mate as early on in the game as possible. Be warned: running the game with no mate forces the player to become independent and will make hunting, territorial upkeep, pup-rearing and protection considerably harder.

Clear Conditions:

  • If the mate is male, he must be killed at the start of the chapter. Make no progress whatsoever until he is dead.
  • If the mate is female, she must be killed only after the pups are born. If she dies before this checkpoint, it's game over. Make no further progress whatsoever until she is dead.

In Classic, this challenge is not possible.

In Legacy versions, this challenge is not possible.

No Home-No Mate Challenge[]

In the Anniversary Edition, the No Home-No Mate Challenge is a playthrough combining the conditions of the no mate and no home challenges. This combination makes for a harder playthrough with far greater risk than doing them separately.

Clear Conditions:

  • Mate must die in the beginning (if male) or after pups are born (if female).
  • Den site must be abandoned as soon as pups emerge. No den use from this point forward.
  • Pups are allowed to shelter in tall grass.
  • Rendezvous site can be chosen to progress into Endless Summer.
Refer to each challenge's own separate section for further info.

In Classic, this challenge is not possible.

In Legacy versions, this challenge is not possible.

Runt Challenges[]

In the Anniversary Edition, the Runt Challenge and Hardcore Runt Challenge each apply to a created wolf with negative values spread across all four of its base attributes. It is not a true runt in that it is not born to a pre-existing wolf and will not unlock any achievements. At no point should this wolf possess a positive or neutral attribute. This challenge works best for experienced players!

Clear Conditions:

  • Runt: Created player-wolf must have -1 values in Health, Strength, Speed, and Stamina, or -2 if it is an elder.
  • Hardcore Runt: Created player-wolf must have -2 values in Health, Strength, Speed, and Stamina, or -3 if it is an elder.
  • Reach the end of the game.

Extra Credit:

Disqualifiers:

  • Any positive (+1 or higher) value in any attribute, whether base or perk-boosted.
  • Any neutral (0) value in any attribute, whether base or perk-boosted.
This challenge does not apply to playable adult offspring marked as runts in the family tree. However, they do make good practise.

In Classic, the Runt Challenge applies to a created wolf with negative values spread across all three of its base stats within the game's limitations. At no point should this wolf possess a positive or neutral stat. This challenge works best for experienced players!

Clear Conditions:

  • Created player-wolf must have stats in the negative with none higher than 0%.
  • Reach the end of the game.

In Legacy versions, the Runt Challenge applies to a created wolf with negative values spread across all three of its base stats within the game's limitations. At no point should this wolf possess a positive or neutral stat. This challenge works best for experienced players!

Clear Conditions:

  • Created player-wolf must have stats in the negative with none higher than 0%.
  • Reach the end of the game.

Hardcore Ironwolf[]

In the Anniversary Edition, the Hardcore Ironwolf (or Ultra Ironwolf) Challenge is the Hardcore Runt challenge (see previous section above) applied to an Ironwolf on Accurate difficulty. This challenge works best for experienced players who can excel even through extreme difficulty!

In Classic, this challenge is not possible.

In Legacy versions, this challenge is not possible.

Multiplayer[]

Challenges designed to test your mettle in multiplayer mode. Some of the single-player challenges can be adapted into multiplayer challenges, so they don't need to be added here.
