Accounts may reference WolfQuest Game Accounts or Community Forum Accounts. Without a game account, players will not be able to access certain features or be able to play online with others.

In WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, the in-game account system launched in Early Access as of 1.0.4a. A WolfQuest Game Account is:

  • Required to play multiplayer, host servers, and join public servers.
  • Capable of limiting online games to all- and selected-friends-only, pack-only, and blocking potentially unwanted players from joining games. (Only applies to games hosted, not those joined as a client.)
  • Required to send and receive messages. (Not required for those running Steam or other third-party services such as Discord or similar.)
  • Required to be able to establish and message packs.
  • Required to read game news and updates from the WolfQuest Team in-game.
  • Required to be able to add friends or block players.
  • Required to earn unlockable achievements.
  • Required to use cloud sync to backup to and restore from the WolfQuest server. Applicable to save data only.
  • Required to purchase and use add-on content.
  • Required to remember unlockables such as coats (1.1.1g+).

In the Steam edition, the WolfQuest game account is tethered to the player's signed-in Steam account. Once tied, the player cannot manually sever the connection and must contact WolfQuest support for unlink assistance. This does not apply to the Itch.io edition.

Support for add-on content was added with the release of 1.0.6n. The names of purchased or redeemed codes for add-on content are shown in the Account Info panel while logged-in. Without an internet connection, owned add-ons will work for a week before requiring an internet connection to check and verify ownership.

In WolfQuest: Classic, a WolfQuest Game Account is:

  • Required to play multiplayer, host servers, and join public servers.
  • Capable of blocking potentially unwanted players from joining games. (Only applies to games hosted, not those joined as a client.)
  • Required to send and receive messages. (Not required for those running Steam or other third-party services such as Discord or similar.)

  • Required to use cloud sync to backup to and restore from the WolfQuest server. Applicable to save data only.
In the Steam edition, the WolfQuest game account is tethered to the player's signed-in Steam account. Once tied, the player cannot manually sever the line and must contact WolfQuest support for unlink assistance. This does not apply to the Itch.io edition.

In Legacy versions of WolfQuest, a game account was in fact a Community Forum Account. To play multiplayer, a player would have had to register an account on the wolfquest.org forum, then activate their forum account via a link sent to their registered e-mail address.

As of December 2018[1] it is no longer possible to play multiplayer in Legacy versions due to a forum upgrade severing the required connection between the game and the community forum's user database. As such, a forum account nowadays is only usable for forum participation.

Registration[]

In the Anniversary Edition, registration is similar to the process detailed for Classic. Like its predecessor, a key will be required to create a new account.

If a game account was previously registered in 2.7, it is possible to sign-in using the same login credentials associated with an existing classic account and begin the migration process, no key necessary.

If the player is stuck during the activation process, they can manually activate their account here or they follow these instructions to contact the WolfQuest Team.

Accounts for the premium game are not tied to the community forum or vice versa! Players wishing to participate on the forum will need to have an existing forum (which is tied to 2.5) account, or else create a new forum account via the WolfQuest website.[2] Similarly, players cannot register a 2.7 account from the website.

In Classic, to register a WolfQuest Game Account, the player must own the full game on computer, or the complete game in-app purchase on mobile. Registration is unavailable and therefore is not supported in the Free Trial.

Any player who has created an account must first verify their registration before they may login to and access it or play multiplayer.[3] If the player is stuck during the activation process, they can manually activate their account here or by following these instructions to contact the WolfQuest Team.

In addition to accessing multiplayer and gaining access to the achievements system, an activated WolfQuest game account allows players to utilise the friends list, send and receive messages, host and join multiplayer games, and create or join pack groups.

In the Steam edition, the WolfQuest game account is tethered to the player's signed-in Steam account. Once tied, the player cannot manually sever the line and must contact WolfQuest support for unlink assistance. This does not apply to the Itch.io edition.

In Legacy versions, a forum account can be created anytime via wolfquest.org. It must then manually activated through e-mail before it can be used.

Reminder: Forum accounts can no longer be used in-game as of December 2018. Multiplayer is no longer playable.

Keys[]

Premium game accounts require the user to enter a valid single-use key during account creation before their registration may progress to the validation stage. Each key is composed of alphanumeric characters, and only one key is received for every purchase of the game. Itch.io purchases grant two keys, one for the storefront the game was purchased from and one for the Steam edition.

Successfully creating an account will immediately cause a valid key to immediately expire, thus preventing its reuse so that another person cannot create an account by using someone else's purchased key. It should be known that an expired key can never be recovered even if the account it was registered to is deleted, or banned/disabled as a consequence of excessive rule-breaking behavior.

People can also enter the WolfQuest Team's monthly contests, hosted and published by Susan or Dave via the WolfQuest Community Forum in the WolfQuest News & Announcements forum and social media platforms. Winners are selected by way of a random number generator and the winners can choose ONE prize from the following pool:

Messaging[]

Players can send each other messages, either individually under the 'Messages' tab, or via any joined or owned packs housed under the 'Friends' tab, which will broadcast the message to all current members.

Trivia[]

  • A forum account is not tethered to the Anniversary Edition nor the older Classic and vice versa. Registering for one service does not grant the player access to the other. Registration is only required once per account for each service respectively.
    • An account created in Classic can be migrated to the Anniversary Edition. However, this is a one-way system - it's not possible to migrate from the Anniversary Edition to Classic.

Anniversary Edition Trivia

  • If the player signs out and unlocks an achievement, this game may remember what was unlocked. Some achievement flags are stored in the .wolfsav file and will be used to check and update its status when the player signs into their account.

Anniversary Edition and Classic Trivia

  • Without an account or while signed out, multiplayer is completely inaccessible and achievements cannot be earned.
  • If played through Steam, the client's achievements will not unlock without a third-party WolfQuest game account, or while signed out.
  • The friends system is more effective than the friends and foes system available on the official community forums due to its convenience and the lack of additional steps (by way of inbox rules) needed to be set-up for it to become most efficient.
  • Friends and messages are not synchronized between Classic and Anniversary Edition, even if the account was created in Classic and upgraded to the Anniversary Edition system. As a result, any existing friends and messages will be lost in the transfer.
    • They are not removed from and will remain on the Classic account.
  • The account system in both games is powered by Combu, a Unity 3D asset.[4]

Classic Trivia

  • Achievements cannot be earned while signed-out or disconnected from an online network.

Legacy Trivia

  • Forum registration used to be manually reviewed by the zoo's volunteers. Activation was switched from admin-only to user-only in late 2015. Accounts can still be activated, reactivated or deactivated by administrators of the forum.
  • The broken connection between game and forum is technically reversible and could be re-established, doing so would be laborious; in the end, Legacy MP would have inevitably shut down if/when the Unity Master Server it utilised shut down.
  • While the community forum does support a friends and foes feature, it served little to no use in-game due to technical limitations; a player blocked on the forum would not be blocked in any way in-game.
