Rest (or resting) is a mechanic first introduced as part of the 2.5 update.[1] The feature was a winning entry for the new ideas contest as decided by the community in a poll run by the WolfQuest Team.[2]
In WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, resting returns with a small handful of quality-of-life tweaks. While resting, the player-wolf will recover health at a slightly increased rate, while any stamina lost through exertion is restored at an accelerated rate. It works in all game maps.
In WolfQuest: Classic, resting remains in the game and functions much like its Legacy counterpart. Resting allows the player-wolf to recover lost stamina at an accelerated rate than idling. It works in all game maps.
In Legacy versions of WolfQuest, resting is triggered by pressing the R key and allows the player's wolf to regain lost stamina at a faster rate. The feature was initially unavailable in multiplayer when it was first implemented, but it would later be enabled along with various bug fixes in version 2.5.1.[3] It works in all game maps.
How to Rest[]
For the purposes of this article, we are documenting default keybind values.
To sit in the Anniversary Edition, press (lightly tap) the key once. It is possible to sit in water, but only while there is adequate land beneath the wolf to accommodate them without entering the swimming state. The avatar will refuse to lay down while in or near water, even if it is shallow.
To lay down, press (lightly tap) the key again while already resting in the sitting pose. When the avatar is in its lay-down position, pressing key again cycles through three additional poses. The fourth press after the final pose returns the avatar to the initial laying down pose.
On controllers, resting is instead triggered by pressing (tapping) the Xbox button, Steam Deck button, or the PlayStation button. As described above, pressing (tapping) once goes into the initial sit, again for the initial lay down, and from there cycles through additional laying down poses.
In Classic, press the R key once and the wolf avatar will sit down. While seated, stamina that has been lost through exertion will be rapidly restored, stopping only when the meter is full. A player may rest in both single-player and multiplayer modes of gameplay while on land, but they cannot trigger it while swimming in deep water nor while standing in shallows.
Pressing the rest key once will make the player's wolf sit and loop the regular sitting animation, albeit without the cleaning segment. Pressing the same key again will make the avatar lay down.
Pressing again while laying down does nothing more.
In Legacy versions, press the R key once and the wolf avatar will sit down. While seated, stamina that has been lost through exertion will be rapidly restored, stopping only when the meter is full.[4] A player may rest in single player while on land, but they cannot trigger it while swimming in deep water nor while standing in shallows. When it was in service, it could also be used during multiplayer gameplay.
Pressing the rest key once will make the player's wolf sit and loop the regular sitting animation, albeit without the cleaning segment. Pressing it again while sitting will make him/her lay down. When in the laying down pose, the camera pans around to an angle in front of the wolf as it gradually settles down with its head resting on its forepaws, with the animation looping a breathing idle for as long as the avatar remains in its "sleep" state. Pressing again while in this "sleep" state does nothing more.
Quick Heal[]
In the Anniversary Edition, Quick Heal is a new feature only available in multiplayer games. To use it, the player must press and hold the key or the appropriate controller button while resting (sitting or laying down). If done correctly, the Hunger meter will display a graphical effect as it steadily drains while the health meter is restored.
Quick healing effectively converts 1% food into 1% health, and can only be performed whilst below 40% health and above 20% food.In Classic, there is no Quick Heal mechanic.
In Legacy versions, there is/was no Quick Heal mechanic.

Poses[]
Poses in the Anniversary Edition:
Laying poses can be carried over and will take priority while asleep. If the player does not first choose a pose before sleeping, their avatar will default to the initial laying down pose. Movement or action input will end the resting state.Poses in Classic:

Bugs[]
Anniversary Edition Bugs
Classic Bugs
Legacy Bugs
- Due to a bug, resting during single player in Amethyst Mountain after the player wolf has died will cause the camera to focus on the first deceased instance elsewhere in the game world, rather than the current living instance.
- This did not carry over to Slough Creek, where player-wolf carcasses despawn properly shortly after respawning.
Trivia[]
- Resting was suggested in the big ideas contest under the name "I need a rest", categorized as a Game Enhancement idea. It was submitted by forum member Cama.
